Filling out
a credit card application is just like filling out a job
application-everyone needs some tips to use so that they get
approved. If your credit is bad, then it may be a little more
difficult to get a credit card than if you have good credit. Do
not give up, because there are hundreds of companies out there
that offer credit cards for people with bad credit and if you
shop around, you will find the credit card that is just right
for you.

If you consider getting a credit card, the first place that you
can get information is the Internet. The Internet has a lot of
information about many different credit cards, including their
rates, fees, and incentives, so that you can find the best
credit card for you. There are some credit card companies that
say that they will give you a credit card with no credit check.
However, keep in mind that having a credit card almost always
means that you are going to go into debt. Be cautious when
choosing the credit card for you. Read the fine print of their
terms and agreements to make sure that there are not going to be
any surprises.

You should analyze your financial situation to make sure that
you can handle a credit card and its payments. Even the most
cautious of us go on a little shopping excursion every now and
then and you do not want to be thrown into a financial tailspin
when your bill comes in. Cautiousness is very important in using
your credit card. If you are not sure that you can handle a
credit card, then rethink applying. You need to be sure that
when the bill comes in that you can make the payments. If you
are not completely sure, then don't get a credit card until you
are ready.

About the Author: Terje Brooks Ellingsen is an internet
publisher and runs http://www.1st-in-loan.net He helps people
with issues like how to to apply online for credit cards, see
http://www.1st-in-loan.net/credit_card_offer.htm and more.

Source: http://www.isnare.com

Credit Card Machines 802 Online

Benefits Of Online Credit Card Processors
By Matt Garrett

We have all heard of PayPal. PayPal is an online credit card
processor that allows online businesses to securely accept
credit cards as a form of payment. In addition to PayPal, there
are additional online credit card processors.

Online shopping has dramatically increased in popularity and
each day more consumers think about purchasing online. Online
shopping is popular because it is generally easy and convenient.
Online credit card processors help to make online shopping
hassle free. Online credit card processors are used by large or
small businesses. In additional to nationally known companies,
online credit card processors make it easy for work-at-home
individuals to successfully make a profit selling homemade or
wholesale merchandise.

For individuals interested in starting their own online
business, finding the perfect online credit card processing
company make take sometime. Credit card number are valuable
information and unfortunately many account numbers are stolen
each day. In addition to protecting the assets of your business,
obtaining a secure online credit card processor will also
protect your customers. Consumers do not want to be shopping or
handing out valuable personal information to an unsecured
website or credit card processing company. The best way to
determine the success of online credit card processors is by
searching for customer feedback on the internet. Many times
clients will post feedback when they have had a positive or
negative experience with a company.

In addition to personal and business security, fully
researching the various different online credit card processors
is a potential way to increase your profits. For allowing you to
use their services, you are charged a fee. The fee and rates
will depend on the online credit card processor in question. For
this reason, it is important to shop around and find the best
value for your money. Although cheaper rates are nice, it is not
always better. Go with your gut instinct, if something seems too
good to be true it may be. Research is an important tool in
keeping your profits intact.

It is not uncommon to come across online credit card processors
that offer certain guidelines or restrictions on their services.
For example, there may be a select few of online credit card
processors that limit the amount of sales it processes. This
limit may be monthly, weekly, or even daily. If your business
becomes a success, this restriction could only hurt it and could
cause you to lose potential profits.

Another restriction may include the type of business that you
are operating. Although each online credit card processor is
different and they tend to operate under different standards,
some online businesses may be a violation of their standards. A
few examples of the businesses that online credit card
processors may refuse to service are gambling sites, adult
sties, or pharmacies. Before entering into a contract with an
online credit card processing company, it is important to read
through their contract rules and guidelines.

Credit cards are used by consumers because they are a
convenient and easy way to participate in online shopping. If
you are operating an online business, whether it be large or
small, consider accepting online credit cards. There a wide
number of online credit card processors available to serve your
needs and help your businesses grow.

About the Author: Matt Garrett, SEO Services
http://www.Accept-Credit-Cards-Online.co.uk

Source: http://www.isnare.com

Credit Card Machines 802 Online

First Credit Card Hazards
By Steve Wilcott

It seems like every time I check my mail there is at least one
or two pre-approved credit card applications. I’m sure you get
them, too. The thing is, you can have terrible credit and still
they flood in. Beware if you just filed bankruptcy because you
will get more of them then you know what to do with!

Credit card debt is all too easy to get into--over and over
again. We don’t feel like we are spending real money until the
bill comes, and then it’s too late. The credit card companies
know how to make it very tempting to fall back on any good
habits we’ve created and just spend away. It’s hard to get away
from, but we have to resist temptation.

When establishing good credit, one of the things we’re told to
do is to get a credit card and then use it to spend wisely.
Experts advise us to pay our bills on time and not to exceed
the credit limit. However, no one really talks to us when we
get that first card about how easily and quickly we hit that
limit, or how easy it is to miss that first monthly payment.
Once you get behind, it can be really hard to catch up.
Oftentimes, credit cards come with introductory interest rates
that are nothing or very low. But many times, those rates soon
change and you can find yourself with a full balance on your
card with an 18 or 20 percent interest rate! That interest rate
can then put you over your limit, if your not paying at least
the minimum payment, now making you susceptible to
over-the-limit fees. Before you know it, you are getting bad
reports on your credit reports for credit card debt on a card
that you haven’t even had very long.

Unfortunately, when times are hard, abusing credit cards is all
too easy. When the economy is bad and cash is tight, you might
find yourself putting your daily living expenses on your credit
cards. If there is any kind of pattern like this in your credit
card spending, it can fill up your credit reports pretty
quickly. When you are not making your payments, the credit card
companies do inquiries to verify your address or other
information. Every time someone makes an inquiry on your credit
report, it makes you look like even more of a high risk, further
worsening your credit report. All the credit card debt on your
report, even if some of it is good, can make you look high risk
for car loans or mortgages – especially if any of those cards
hold high balances. Even worse, that bad credit report can keep
you from renting an apartment or getting a job that requires a
background check.

As tempting as it is to pay with plastic, choose the “debit”
option next time and keep your future in mind. It’s normal to
risk it all when times are tough, but doing so creates more
problems later that can take years with a credit counselor to
fix. Credit card debt has long time risks, but if you use
credit cards wisely, you can build credit that brings rewards
instead.

<span style="font-weight: bold; It can take over your life. If you have a debt problem
the earlier it is handled and dealt with, the less likely it’ll
turn into a crisis, and the more money you’ll save in the
fullness of time.

The very nature of borrowing means that interest increases over
time and if it isn’t dealt with promptly, it can spiral out of
control and land you into trouble. Particularly with credit
cards, when interest payments are large, and a minimum payment
offers a seemingly manageable solution; what is actually
happening is this: the balance is being eroded like the sea
bites away at the shore. It’ll disappear into the ocean
eventually, but might take many years to do so. What you need
is a more radical approach, where chunks of debt are eaten away
each month.

Being in debt can be a stressful time. Many people are scared
to tell husbands, wives, friends – anyone. There’s a kind of
stigma attached to the problem, but there is always a way out.

Traditional debt advice proscribes borrowing your way out of a
problem. Yet this ignores the reality of most debts. A more
advisable and realistic approach would be to never borrow more
to get out of debt trouble. If it is possible to borrow more
cheaply elsewhere to replace existing borrowing and consolidate
your debt, then this is an eminently sensible approach.

The first step should always be to work out your monthly
outgoings and try and trim down your spending on luxuries and
things you can do without. This doesn’t mean you have to live
the life of a monk and forgo all worldly pleasures! But by
adopting sensible spending patterns you can redirect some of
your monthly income into paying off your outstanding balances.
Always keep at the front of your mind the fact that the longer
the debt smolders away, the more you spend in interest
payments.

Those with big debts may save thousands a year in interest by
reconsidering their borrowing commitments. Do this in three
ways:

i) Lower the interest if possible by moving your debts to
reduce the interest cost.
ii) Pay the worst first: prioritize paying off the highest
interest rate debts first
iii) Utilize any free debt advice there is. A non-commercial
agency will give you good advice, focus you on your priorities,
and place any problems in context. Things may not be as bad as
they first seem.

Of course, there’s other basic, practicable things you can do
on your own. It's incredibly important to get on top of credit
card debts as soon as possible. Don't default or miss payments.
Let the credit card company know if you are going to be unable
to pay – it’s always better to talk to them than putting your
head in the sand.

If things aren’t that bad, there’s a variety of easy strategies
you can implement that will help ease things for you. Consider a
credit card balance transfer to a lender offering a lower rate
of APR. This will mean you spend less on interest payments each
month and start to attack the overall balance with real venom.

You could take out an unsecured loan as a way of consolidating
your debt. Personal loans can give you a consistent cheap debt,
and as you must make the repayments each month, it helps provide
structure to your repayments. Those with poorer credit scores
might not always get decent rates, but it’s still often a
cheaper option than paying back credit card debt each month,
and overall a faster method of repayment.

If you have them, use savings: The interest paid on savings is
usually far less than interest charged on borrowing, so paying
off debts with savings makes eminent sense. Even if you think
of your savings as an ‘emergency cash fund’ or money for the
future, better to fall back on it in the short term and pay it
back later, than paying interest to a credit card company so
that money for some far flung eventuality is at your disposal.

It’s worth mentioning that for many people, credit cards
provide sensible short term, flexible lending, that’s both
cheap and convenient. You should always try and proceed
cautiously, but credit card debt woes are not an inevitable
consequence of taking them out. Tens of millions of Americans
use credit cards cheaply and conveniently every year.

For those who feel they are in trouble, don’t feel stigmatized
by your debt woes and don’t pretend they’re not there. Help is
at hand should you seek it, and a solution is never far away.

About the Author: Ethan Hunter is the author of many credit
related articles. This document, offered to consumers and lenders by the
three major credit bureaus, offers a fairly complete list of
financial transactions and debts incurred by a consumer.
Lenders examine the report, along with the associated FICO
score, to determine whether a consumer is worthy of receiving
additional credit or loans. What many consumers may not know is
that credit card companies regularly check their credit reports,
and unfavorable entries may result in a higher interest rate on
their credit cards.

We have previously noted that many credit card companies employ
something known as a “universal default clause” in their terms
of service. This clause allows the company to raise interest
rates on the customer’s card if the customer pays bills late. A
late payment to the phone company could result in a higher
interest rate on the Visa card. Most companies also allow
themselves the latitude to raise their customers’ interest
rates for any reason at all. With this in mind, the credit card
companies tend to run occasional credit checks on their
customers, often raising rates if they notice any activity
that, in their opinion, makes the customer a higher risk. This
might happen even if the customer has a history of paying his
or her credit card bills on time.

The sorts of things that may create a “risky” client include
taking out additional loans, additional credit cards, or
building balances on existing cards to at or near their limits.
The companies justify this activity by saying that consumers who
do these things create greater risk for the lender, and these
costs must be passed on to all of their customers. The problem
for the customer is that these higher interest rates are often
assigned without warning. The new rate applies to existing
balances, too. An interest rate hike today could mean that the
television you bought last fall has suddenly become more
expensive.

What can consumers do? Keep an eye on your credit card bill and
your credit report. You can receive a copy of your credit
report, for free, at http://www.annualcreditreport.com. As for
your credit card bill, watch the interest rate. If it abruptly
changes to a higher rate, call your credit card issuer and ask
them about it. They will often reduce the rate if you call and
complain. If not, your only option may be to shop around for
another card.

About the Author: ©Copyright 2005 by Retro Marketing. Salaried people usually prefer to take car loans instead of paying the entire amount outright. Before you go to the showroom, prepare yourself with all the information you require to finance your new car purchase with a car loan and preferably a low interest car loan.

Take a long hard look at your financial condition and zero in on the budget – the maximum price you are willing to pay for the car of your choice. Once you have finalized that, decide on the amount of money you can afford to shell out as a down payment for the car loan. This would have a direct impact on what you can comfortably afford to pay every month as car loan repayment.

Do Your Homework Before Taking A Car Loan

Entering a car showroom without doing an extensive market research is foolhardy – you are at the mercy of the smiling car salesperson! With the advent of internet, market research has never been easier! Look around for dealers and banks offering low interest car loans. Use a search engine intelligently and you will find quite a few websites that allow a person to calculate the monthly installments he would require to pay on car loans based on the price of the car, the interest rates, and the tenure.

Getting “fast approval car loans” will be simpler if you can prove a good credit history and income. Keep in mind, low interest car loans and fast approval car loans do not go hand in hand all the time. In order to get a car loan approved within hours you may have to face high interest rates, ridiculously short repayment period or even lower loan amount! That would mean that you would have to shell out more money from your pockets in order to avoid high monthly payments on car loans. The challenge is finding a financial institution or a car dealer who offers low interest car loans together with a reasonably fast approval.

Buying a car involves big money. Do not stop after enquiring with a 2-3 dealers or banks. What you may think as low interest rate car loan may actually seem high if you look at what the fourth has to offer! Knowing what is on offer in the market will prevent those lightning bolts falling on your head when the dealer utters the interest rates and the monthly installments you are to pay on the car loan for the next 5 years.

The decision to take a car loan, or for that matter, any loan will affect your finances for a few years. Plan well before taking a so-called fast approval car loan. Try not to change your regular lifestyle drastically because of an expensive car. Think of your other financial commitments. Do not jump at the thought of buying a sexy looking sports car, when what you need regularly is a spacious family car for four and a pet. Think carefully about what you need and what you would love to have- if the difference turns out to be too much, use your practical sense!

When you are planning to buy a car and Need a Car loan, you should try to get a [http://www.lowinterestcarloan.info/lowinterestcarloans.html]low interest car loan. Nowadays, you won’t have to fly
halfway around the world or drive across town to purchase
authentic gifts for a loved one. Instead, you can just order it
online at home. Your gift will be wrapped and delivered right to
your door step. All you need is a secure connection, a working
credit card account and a little understanding of how to manage
an online account.

In fact, if you find it hard to keep your bills in order or
can’t find the time to drop in at the bank, then having an
online credit card account is the best way to solve your
problems. With this, you can actually manage all your finances
without you ever leaving your office, or even your desk. You
can make instant payments on the spot, check past transactions
easily and immediately print statements that would regularly
take weeks to get to your mailbox.

With all this convenience, anyone is bound to worry about the
security of having an online credit card account. If you are
able to access your account with your name, ID or a simple
password, it is possible for a thief who has the right
combination of these elements to access to your account. Thus,
it is important that you do not give out your personal
information to strangers or even callers over the phone.

Also, before you enter any sensitive information on your
browser, ensure that your browser is a secured browser that
utilizes Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) that encrypts data before
transmitting it to the server. Most banking websites utilize
secured web pages indicated by a locked padlock sign at the
bottom of the browser. Naturally, credit card users are advised
to not make financial transactions over public computers. Online
access can be a godsend to most of us who lead a busy lifestyle
but if we are not careful, we may lose our finances and
property to thieving scoundrels at the click of a mouse.

About the Author: Adam Goldman recommends Find Credit Cards for
finding a Visa card application. Well, not until now at least. The key to a stress-free tax season is being organized all year-round. Trying to organize a week before or, even worse, the night before April 15th is setting yourself up for failure.

Why You Should Organize for Tax Time

Organizing for tax time helps you avoid misplacing important receipts and documents. Your stress level will be lower because you won't be rushing around at the last minute trying to get to the tax preparer and/or post office. Being organized for tax time also helps you save money because you are more likely to keep track of deductions if you have a system and you won't be charged a higher fee for having your tax preparer go through your piles of receipts.

How and What To Organize for Tax Time

The only way to organize any object is to assign a home to it. Designate a filing cabinet or storage bin made to hold hanging folders for your year-round paper storage. Create folders for receipts, credit card and bank statements, etc. You will make a folder for anything you spend money on and need to keep track of for tax purposes. Have a filing schedule. I usually take one day a month to pay the monthly bills for my three businesses and to do all my filing. During the month, I put all my documents into one of two places until my filing day. This keeps everything organized with very little effort. I have one folder designated for current bills to be paid and then a lateral shelving unit that I stick everything else in for all three businesses and for my personal documents. No matter what, no less than once a month, I file everything from the shelving unit into my filing cabinet in the appropriate folder.

Now, where do we file our papers? Each year, you should designate a large accordion envelope or section of your filing cabinet to your tax papers. Some of the tax papers you will be filing will include your W2s, 1099s, mortgage interest statements, bank interest statements, real estate tax statements, investments statements, and receipts for charitable donations. Most of the papers/receipts you will file will fall into the following categories: salary, real estate, medical, childcare, and investments.

How Long Should I Keep My Financial Records

First of all, make it a habit to throw away as much as you can that you don't need to keep like the envelopes that come with your statements, your ATM slips after they have been recorded in your check register, credit-card slips (don't forget to shred them if they show your credit card number), utility, phone, and cable bills after you have paid them.

Now, on to the documents you should hang on to. Hang on to all monthly statements of financial accounts (bank, investment, etc.) one year until you reconcile them with the year-end statements. Hang on to federal and state income tax returns and related receipts and statements for at least three years. One investment company recommends keeping all tax returns and related information for six years if there is a possibility you may have under-reported your income by 25% or more. When it comes to business equipment or home improvements, you keep those records as long as you have the item (printer, house, etc.).

Simple Tax Time

Everyone has a different financial situation and these tips are offered as guidelines to simplify tax time. Being organized at tax time and year-round should allow you to lead a calmer life and to have greater control of something that you can, and should, plan for. I hope a few of these tips helped and that you have a stress-free tax season as we head into the next year.

Sheri McConnell is the President of the National Association of Women Writers (http://www.NAWW.org). If an online firm doesn?t possess credit card payment facilities, certainly it loses consumers and sales. Credit card payments are safe and secure, and they guarantee the best customer service. Besides, these payments give a more professional look to any business.

Several different types of credit card processing terminals are available in today's market. These terminals are also referred to as point of sale (POS) terminals. Their type and style depend on the kind of business and style of credit card processing. Prices also vary according to their functions and the technology they use.

Card readers with a small keypad and display are the most basic form of the POS. These are the most economical type of terminals. A credit card processing terminal first checks the customer?s card information. After that, it withdraws money for the purchase from his account and places it directly into the merchant account.

Most merchants prefer a terminal without an attached printer, while retail merchants usually go for a terminal with an integrated printer. There are also wireless machines that are more costly, but the processing volume supports their cost. Wireless credit card processing terminals are mainly used for businesses that continually change their location. Door-to-door salesmen, taxi cab drivers, and seasonal shop owners are the main other consumers of wireless terminals.

Manual credit card processing is a difficult task and it is more time consuming too. The finest choice is to automate your manual credit card processing machine, if possible. Credit card processing machines use different software packages that provide for instant processing, and encrypted SSL (secure socket layer) for safe deals. Of course, any leaks or losses of personal information immediately break the credibility of a business.

Some latest credit card processing terminals can handle multiple merchant accounts. Examples include Nurit 2085, Omni 3750, Nurit 3020, Omni 3740, and Verifone Tranz 380x2. All these terminals provide retailers a fast, low-cost way to approve and process credit card sales.

Credit Card Processing provides detailed information on Credit Card Processing, Online Credit Card Processing, Credit Card Processing Software, Wireless Credit Card Processing and more. The Internet is brimming with advice on this subject and you are certain to see the comparison between merchant accounts and other payment methods.

This article will explain the basics of what's truly involved in taking credit cards and the required steps to getting a merchant account - online, offline or otherwise...

What is an Online Merchant Account?

A merchant account is an account obtained from a reputable financial institution like a bank through which you are allowed to accept credit card payments.

The merchant account can also be acquired from specialized financial institutions called "merchant account providers". These financial institutions work with banks to supply unique features that would not be available otherwise.

As soon as you are able to accept payments via credit card, you will see an instant increase in sales, simply because there is now a more expedient payment option for your clients. Since many customer these days prefer to pay with plastic, sales transactions are quicker, and there's decreased risk and less "work" in terms of parting customers and their money.

There are various advantages that can greatly increase your profits once you open your own merchant account: (i) customers will impulse buy more readily, (ii) real time transaction processing, (iii) the resulting flexibility attracts additional customers to finish sales without holdup, and so on. Shortly, you will discover that your business profits (and word of mouth marketing) will will begin improving - simply by being able to accept credit cards - and service more clients...

To set up a merchant account, some things need to take place: The bank or financial institution will conduct a basic investigation into your business' credentials. They will look into your credit history, your business plan, your organization's financial stability (whether you can pay the fees - fixed and per transaction - imposed by the merchant account, etc). After the bank and/or financial institution is confident that the business is able to sustain a merchant account, they will establish the ability of your company to take payments by credit card.

This is the reason any company who owns a merchant account is more trustworthy to a customer. It is well known by consumers that the company who has a merchant account has undergone the rudimentary inspections required by a bank or financial institution and were deemed acceptable. It's similar to having a "stamp of approval", other than the fact that it simplifies the sale on various levels.

You need to be conscious that the majority of merchant accounts require minimum monthly fees to be paid that will be charged regardless of whether you process sales or not that generated fees that month. It's advisable to analyze the fees and features of several merchant accounts providers prior to deciding which one you will choose. And no matter what you do, be certain to read all of the terms and conditions of each potential merchant provider prior to signing on the dotted line...

Another benefit that comes with a merchant account is a comprehensive monthly statement of transactions. This statement will provide you with the credit card number of your customers. This will make it simple for you to match charge-backs or returns, and it will give you precise monthly and yearly sales figures and reports. (Hopefully, you won't be getting any charge-backs...)

Other than the fact that - assisted by the right merchant account - you are able to obtain superior service at the lowest possible costs (the profits skyrocket after your sales volume increases), you can also simplify and automate your company when you're selling online.

And that's what's called working smarter, not "harder". Being able to accept credit cards - and knowing the steps to getting a merchant account - makes it so much easier to see a real level of success with your business...

Chris Rempel, marketing director of Accept by Phone, recently started a "Lens" on the Squidoo Network about merchant account credit card processing.

Check it out here: Merchant Account Credit Card Processing

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Chris_Rempel
http://EzineArticles.com/?Steps-to-Getting-an-Online-Merchant-Account&id=419127

Credit Card Machines 802 Online

Credit Card Processing Machines by Jack Chevalier

From : usamerchantsolutions.com.

Every credit card terminal has different functions and capabilities, but all of them take some investigation for your needs and price expectations. The following is a list of different options available when considering credit card machines:

IPP or Internal PIN Pad: This comes with several different models and although a nice option, you should consider the fact that this terminal is passed back and fourth between the cashier and customer. Smartcard: Another great option automatically available on some terminals, but will you utilize this option? Smartcard is used for gift and loyalty cards and unless your business is going to utilize this option, you might want to consider a less expensive terminal.

Touch Screen: This option is more for the ease of use for the cashier, but usually gives you signature capture. Signature Capture allows your customers to sign the terminal screen instead of the receipt.

Wireless Capabilities: This allows you to accept Credit Cards through a wireless or cellular connection. Most of the time this is great for merchants who are making sales away from the office, but this can be limited by the cellular service in that particular area.

RS-232 Ports: This gives you the opportunity to attach other devices to your terminal such as a check imager or check reader.

PIN Pad Port: Allows you to add an external PIN pad to your existing credit card machine.

Now there is no set rules for what type of equipment to buy or what type of equipment your processor can support, so it's up to you, the merchant, to investigate what your best options are. Just remember, if you have any questions about equipment call your processor.

About the Author

None

Credit Card Machines 802 Online

Understanding Online Payments by Robert Levings

UNDERSTANDING ONLINE PAYMENTS By Robert Levings, President, EasyPay123

Internet Payment Options

There has been much talk about how the Internet is becoming an important channel for buying and selling products and services. Companies are looking to exploit the Internet in a variety of ways to increase sales to both existing customers and to customers in new markets.

To make these initiatives work in practice requires the application of a range of technologies, from servers to software. An increasingly-critical piece of the e-commerce equation is the ability to pay for goods and services using Internet-based applications.

Internet-based payments offer the benefit of convenience to customers who can pay for their products or services and receive immediate feedback on the status of their payment. Well thought-out payment interfaces will address the payment needs of the bulk of your customers, and offer them valuable features such as electronic receipts, recurring billing options and more. For merchants, online payments can mean that bad debts are reduced and cash flow is improved, improving the bottom line of your business.

The type of payment that you choose will be dependent on your customers' needs and the type of business that you operate.

E-Commerce Payment Types

Many types of payments can be used in online transactions (here we refer to those transactions that use the Internet as the communications channel). The major types include:

EFT: Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) is a system of transferring money from one bank account directly to another without any paper money changing hands. It provides a means of transferring funds to and from customers and business partners. Electronic cheques: Different types of electronic cheque services are available, but all essentially provide a mechanism for paying over the Internet by enabling purchasers to use their existing chequing accounts to transfer funds to another party. A secure infrastructure ensures that confidential information is not compromised in transit.

Debit cards: Wildly popular for "bricks and mortar" purchases, they have not caught on as a mechanism for Internet purchases because the banks and payment processors have only certified a limited number of devices for transmitting the PIN Number associated with a debit card over the internet. Limited pilots are underway using wireless debit card devices for applications such as pizza deliveries and taxis.

Credit cards: Still the dominant online payment type, it is popular because of its ubiquity and the familiarity that customers have in using them in a variety of settings.

Internet banking: Some businesses (typically large ones such as telephone companies) enable customers to transfer funds from their bank account to pay bills. Online bill payments are usually facilitated by the major banks where you can log on and pay your bills at your convenience.

Alternative payment types: A large number of niche payment types have arisen over the past few years (typically with minimal or no success). These include stored value cards, Internet (digital) cash, pseudo-currencies (e.g. Flooz) and others. No doubt at some point one or more of these payment types will gain a foothold, but none have sufficient critical mass at this time to be a viable alternative for most merchants.

For the purposes of the rest of this article, we will focus on credit card payments, which represent a substantial amount (95%+) of the payments being processed over the Internet today.

Getting Started with Credit Card Processing

If you are a merchant that is looking to accept credit card payments, there are a few steps that you should follow to ensure a successful implementation. None of them are difficult, but some can take time to complete. It is recommended that you follow each of the steps in sequence to avoid compatibility issues between your application and the financial network.

Let's examine each step in order:

1. Determine the Right Payment Interface

The payment interface is the application that you are going to use to process credit card payments. There are many options available to you, and the right choice will be dictated by the type of business you have and the requirements of your customers. Some of the more popular interface options include:

Shopping cart _______

Useful When …Your customers may be purchasing multiple items from you in a single purchase Make Sure That … You understand the features that you need and that you purchase from a reputable vendor ________

A shopping cart enables merchants to accept payment for multiple items in a single transaction. Most online retailers that offer a variety of products use some type of shopping cart application. Shopping carts typically provide customers with a number of convenient features, such as an electronic "shopping basket" to "hold" their goods until purchase.

Shopping carts offer a wide range of possible advantages to merchants as well, such as automated shipping and tax calculation; "back-office" tools for payment and inventory management; reporting tools; coupons and discount functions and control over individual and store-wide sales.

Shopping cart software can be purchased and "hosted" by the merchant on a server of their choice, but most merchants choose to use the services of a shopping cart service provider. Costs typically include set-up fees and monthly fees, in addition to your payment gateway fees. Many shopping cart providers offer different levels of feature packages, with fees based on the chosen feature level. Before you invest in a shopping cart application, understand what features are important to you and to your customers. Make sure that the service provider is reputable and is going to be around for a while. Switching service providers can be expensive, time consuming and frustrating. Your research will pay off in the long run.

"Buy Button" ___________

Useful When … You only have a few products to sell or your customers only purchase one product or service at a time Make Sure That … The customer buying experience is "seamless" and secure ___________

A "buy button" is similar to a shopping cart, but typically facilitates the purchase of only one product (or service). It generally consists of simple html code that you insert into your site that displays an order form with associated product information. Customers click on the buy button, and an order form appears with the relevant order information in it. Customers enter their shipping and credit card information in the form, press "submit", and their order is processed.

Be aware that some buy button applications force customers to be "transported" to another page that has a different look and feel from your site. Some customers are uncomfortable with this, and may abandon the sale if this happens. Again, shop around. Talk to your payment gateway provider. It will pay off.

Virtual Point of Sale (VPOS) ___________

Useful When … You are processing payments that are coming in by phone, fax or email Make Sure That … You have a mechanism to reconcile VPOS payments to bank deposits ___________

A virtual point of sale application (VPOS) is a replacement for traditional hardware-based POS terminals that you may be familiar with at restaurants, bars and other places where credit cards are accepted. The application is either installed on your PC, or is accessed through a secure web connection (much like an online order form). VPOS lets you authorize, settle, credit and delete transactions, and may perform other functions such as reporting.

VPOS is used by businesses that want to process payments that arrive by phone, fax or email, such as call centres and mail order businesses.

Wireless ___________

Useful When …You are processing payments in remote locations (e.g. pizza delivery, flea markets, etc.) Make Sure That … Your data transmission is secure. The wireless connection should be digital to protect data. ___________

Many wireless devices are emerging now to satisfy the needs of mobile workers. Digital cell phones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA's, such as Palm Pilots) and specialized hardware can now be used as mobile payment devices. With a "WAP-enabled" cell phone or browser-based PDA, you can enter the basic information required to process a transaction.

Wireless payment processing is useful in situations where traditional or PC-based point of sale devices cannot be used.

Swipe Card ___________

Useful When …The customer is present and when you need to give the customer a signed receipt for their payment Make Sure That … Your merchant account is configured to take advantage of the lower discount rate (i.e. credit card fee) ___________

Swipe card applications are ones where the credit card can be "swiped" through a card reader, and the customer can sign the receipt. The swipe device can typically be connected to a PC, or specialized devices are available for use (such as traditional POS terminals).

The merchant account fees for swiped ("card present") transactions are lower than "card not present" transactions.

2. Get a merchant account

A merchant account gives merchants the right to accept credit cards for payment. A merchant account is required for each credit card you wish to accept. This step can be the most time-consuming and frustrating for merchants, and it will also be the component that most influences your costs of doing business online. Researching your merchant account options, understanding the merchant account process, knowing how merchant account providers assess merchants, and "shopping around", will pay off dramatically.

Merchant accounts have several fees associated with them, including a set-up fee ($200-$500), monthly statement fees ($5-$10), a monthly minimum fee ($20-$30) and a discount rate. The discount rate is a percentage of your sales revenue that the banks levy, and it varies by how "risky" your business is perceived to be (many factors enter into this, such as your credit history, the type of products you sell, your sales volume, average order size, etc.).

When enquiring about merchant accounts, start with your bank first. Then shop around. Fees vary significantly from institution to institution. In fact, they sometimes vary within an institution, depending upon the merchant account representative you speak with. Depending upon your sales volume, shopping around can save you a lot of money over time.

If you wish, EasyPay123 has relationships with several merchant account providers, some of which have online applications that are available online on EasyPay123's website. We'd also be happy to advise as you work through the process of obtaining a merchant account.

For more information, see EasyPay123's article entitled "Getting a Merchant Account" available by sending us a request through our online contact form at www.easypay123.com.

3. Select a payment gateway

The payment gateway is the service that connects your payment interface to the financial network. Gateways take the payment information from the application, ensure that the data is valid, format it appropriately, and send it on to the financial network for authorization, settlement, etc. Gateways typically also offer advanced features such as reporting and transaction management.

When you select a gateway, make sure that they can connect to your interface of choice (some gateways may also offer their own payment applications that you can take advantage of). Also make sure that they can connect to your merchant bank (so that funds can be deposited to your account). Finally, determine what other features you are looking for in a payment gateway, such as recurring payments, ability to process in multiple currencies, email notification of orders, fraud screening, etc. Shop around and ask lots of questions. Once you connect to a specific gateway, switching can be expensive and time consuming.

4. Payment-enable your application

Once your gateway has been selected, someone needs to connect it to your payment interface and customize it to meet your needs (if it is customizable). This is typically the job of your developer. Make sure that the developer has done this kind of work before, and will be around if you need changes in the future. Be explicit about your requirements and document them so that they are unambiguous.

5. Test and Launch

Since it's your money that is being processed, be meticulous about testing the application. Use a real credit card (for each credit card type your are accepting) and process a small transaction (e.g. $1.00) to make sure that the payment is authorized properly and that it settles to your bank account. Once you launch, problems are difficult to fix without affecting your customers.

Summary

Offering convenient payment options to your customers is a good way to secure their loyalty and reduce your operational costs. A variety of payment methods are available, and various interfaces can be used depending upon the needs of your customers and your business. When evaluating payment processing options start with your customers' needs and document all of the features that you wish to have in your payment solution. Take the time to shop around, and make sure that the service providers that you choose are ones that you will be happy with in the long run.

About EasyPay123

EasyPay123 is a leading supplier of payment processing solutions to businesses across North America. Low cost credit card processing involves a cheaper means to accept credit card numbers, apply them to the merchant's account, and obtain payment from the creditor for the amount. A business?s success or failure depends on whether or not it accepts credit card orders.

Low cost credit card processing is indispensable to raise the profitability of your business. Many people waste considerable amounts of money on extravagant processing. Often, processing statements are so difficult to read that it is virtually impossible to estimate how much money you are actually paying. Low cost credit card processing helps you run a more successful business operation.

In the United States, the cost of credit card processing is about $10 to $20 (per month) in flat fees, plus a small percentage of your sales, known as a discount rate. The discount rate is as low as 1.69% for an offline business, while discount rate for mail order and online merchants is about 2.19%. Using a low cost credit card processing technique, the transaction fee averages only about 25 cents for all merchants.

Low cost credit card processing falls into three types. The first is using a virtual terminal that allows manual addition of mail. The second employs a simple integration technique that connects your website directly to the credit card and bank system. The third type uses an advanced mechanism for custom-linking your system to other more composite systems using a transaction gateway server.

Lots of card processing companies offer you reliable, low cost and comprehensive credit card processing. A reliable low cost credit card processing service uses modern encryption technology to ensure security.

Credit Card Processing provides detailed information on Credit Card Processing, Online Credit Card Processing, Credit Card Processing Software, Wireless Credit Card Processing and more. As most of
the internet surfers should already have noticed, many credit
card companies operating online and offline for that matter,
announce they can offter the best credit card online, even with
instant approval if you apply for it on their website. Some
people think that this means they can instantly download a copy
of a card like waving a magic stick and start to purchase with
it immideately. Let's sort out some confusion here. Many credit
card websites can approve your application instantly, which in
most cases means within a few minutes. But that doesn't mean
you can print out your card and run to your local Wal-Mart or
Target or wherever and immedeately shop. Of course you can
shop, but not with your newly approved card, because you have
not received it yet.

Though the approval procedure only takes minutes, you have to
be patient and wait for your card. This will be sent in the
mail, and it will take a few days. Now, the nice thing with
applying online for a card is that you know if you are approved
for it or not within a fairly short time, and I would think that
this is the best thing for people to know, or like the saying
goes "those who are waiting for something good don't wait in
vain"

Compared to the old-fashioned way of doing it, returning the
snail mail offer for a credit card, waiting days or even weeks
for the bank or credit card company to process it and run your
credit, and finally waiting for them to send out your new
credit card, the online way is far more convenient and fast.
Another advantage of doing the application online is that it
also gives you a fantastic option to compare the cost of credit
offered from a lot of card companies.

There are certain limitations however on who is eligible for an
Instant online credit card approval. Instant approval credit
card offers are targeted to - or at least originally meant to
be for - people with good credit records. However, there are
ways to go around this and sometimes this might be pure luck.
What I mean is, sometimes the card company you apply to, may
not be able to access your credit records for some reasons. But
this is an exception. The competition on the credit market is so
high today, that some companies are willing to tow the line
pretty far to get customers. The bottom line is that even if
your credit history is not so good, you can obtain an instantly
approved credit card. So regardless to what your credit rating
is, there is no reason not to apply.

If you want to apply for an instant approval of a credit card
online, go to the web and search for instant credit card
approval an you'll have more than enough websites to choose
among, giving you the opportunity to compare the offers from
different sites with respect to the cost of credit. Then you
will be able to find the best deal. Good luck!

About the Author: Terje Brooks Ellingsen is a writer and
internet publisher. Find The Best Bad Credit Card
By Adam Goldman

Having a poor credit rating can seriously limit your choices of
credit cards. Most credit card companies are likely to turn down
your applications, making things tough for you at a time when
you most need a credit card. Fortunately though, that’s not the
end of it as you have another option of bad credit cards.
Naturally, this is a temporary solution until you can get back
on your feet. Bad credit cards can also be used to help you
improve your credit score, as long as you pay your credit card
bills on time, that is. The only drawback to this would
obviously be the higher than usual APR interests.

Nevertheless, if you are willing to provide collateral to the
credit card company, you may qualify for a secured bad credit
card with a lower APR. This way, you can still earn interests
on your collateral, and simultaneously enjoy good rates. The
downside is, you may be charged other fees such as annual fees
or start up fees.

Before you apply for a bad credit card, it is prudent to do
your homework first. As bad credit cards are usually offered to
those with poor credit ratings, the APR would unlikely be low.
Thus, comparing the various offers of bad credit cards out
there would be a wise move.

One of the primary factors of consideration includes the
upfront fees that credit card companies would charge you. In
order to make a wise evaluation, it’s best that you have a plan
to pay off your debt before your interests snowball. Other
factors that you can use to help you make a better decision
would be to analyze the reward programs that your bad credit
card can offer. When a business starts out, they are often met with a barrage of telemarketers and companies offering to help them to accept credit cards. Because of the new business owner's extremely busy schedule and lack of knowledge regarding the credit card processing industry, owners are often convinced that leasing a credit card terminal is the best solution for their business.

In reality, leasing a credit card machine is far from the best interest. For most businesses, a simple swipe and print credit card machine is a perfectly acceptable method of accepting credit cards. What many new business owners fail to do, is investigate the actual price of a new credit card machine. What they would find is that the outright purchase of a credit card terminal is often a completely reasonably priced purchase, and usually is many times less costly than a lease. What would cost them two to three hundred dollars to own, can cost them thousands of dollars to lease. Money is very tight, especially during the startup phase of a business, and the extra money spent on leasing a credit card machine is most definitely better suited elsewhere.

Leasing credit card equipment became a standard in the eighties and early nineties, when the lack of consumer knowledge and a growing processing industry led to the portrayal of high priced processing equipment. During this time fifty dollar per month leases were not uncommon. Since the creation of the internet, consumers have access to a vast amount of information. Processing companies can no longer easily inflate the costs of processing equipment. Now, new business owners are virtually the only group susceptible to getting scammed into a lease. This is due mainly to time constraints and a lack of research on their part.

Leases do still play a role in obtaining credit card equipment, but should only be considered when the required equipment is very high priced. Wireless terminals, while becoming more affordable, can still be a considerable investment. Wireless terminals can still cost over a thousand dollars to purchase which is definitely a significant amount of money. Leasing a wireless terminal can alleviate some of this cost, but business owners should still be aware that they will pay more than the cost of the terminal in the end.

Leases also often come with strings attached, or more appropriately a web of strings attached. Lease commonly last for thirty six to forty eight months, but can be in any increment from twelve months up to forty eight. The shorter the lease, the higher the monthly payment. Leases are also normally non cancel-able for the duration of the lease. There may be considerable penalties for canceling a lease before its term is up. Leases are not always for ownership of the equipment, and hefty buyout fees can occur at the end of the lease. Some leases start over at the end of their term, and the business only has a short window to opt out of the lease. Businesses should be aware of the terms governing the lease before they even contemplate signing it. Signing a lease without fully understanding what is involved in it and fully calculating the cost of the lease can be an extremely expensive mistake.

Enter your lease information into the lease cost calculator to find out how much extra leasing will cost you compared to purchasing.

Copyright 2006 Jamie Estep, The Merchant Account Blog.

Jamie Estep runs the website: (The Merchant Account Blog) and offers information and advice on topics relating to credit card processing. The other night I was reconciling my monthly statements
and noticed a large discrepancy in the APR's (annual percentage
rate) I was paying on these three accounts.

My first card, card "A", has an APR of 8.9%; card "B" has an
APR of 9.9%; and card "C" has an APR of 17.9% -Ouch ! I knew I
had to see what I could do about this"out of range" interest
rate on card "C". So I considered a couple of options.

One choice would be to transfer or switch the balance on card
"C" to a new card with a lower APR. This would be very easy
to do since I had received several pre-approved credit card
offers earlier in the week. They included "convenience checks"
that I could use to payoff that high APR credit card, thereby
transferring that balance to a new account.

I decided against this option however because I didn't really
want to add another account to my credit profile. Your credit
score, that "magic number" that establishes your
credit-worthiness to merchants can be affected negatively by
having too many accounts.

So instead I decided to contact the issuer of credit card "C"
to see what they could do about that 17.9% APR which seemed so
out of line with my two other credit card accounts. I reasoned
this was the better of the two options before me since I've
already established a relationship with this company; a
relationship which included many years of on-time payments
which reflects positively in my credit profile with the credit
bureaus.

I called the 800 number and talked to a very a nice gentleman.
I explained to him the reason for my call; two other credit card
issuers offered me a much more reasonable interest rate and so
I'd like to see what his company could offer to me.

I wasn't surprised when he replied that he could lower my
current rate from 17.9% to 15.9%. Since the credit card
company makes a profit from the interest rate they charge I
didn't expect to be offered the best or lowest rate right off
the bat. I prepared myself to have to do a little negotiating.

And so I reminded him that my account was in goodstanding and
had been for many years now. I had not made any late payments
and always made more thanthe minimum payment due.

Again he informed me that the best he could offer was a rate of
15.9% that would be good until August 2003. So now not only
was I not feeling like I was getting a very good deal but this
new rate would only be a "promotional" rate !

I remained calm and friendly, knowing that yelling at him or
telling him what a "lousy" company he worked for would be
counterproductive to my end goal - a lower and better APR for
this account. I thaned him for his time but told him I didn't
feel this was a very good offer.

And then the "magic" happened. He asked if I would like to
speak to an account manager and that perhaps they could better
assist me. I thanked him for his time and assistance and was
then transferred to an account manager.

I explained my dilemma to her and reasoned with her that as a
good customer I expected a much better rate. She empathized
with me and then offered to upgrade my account to their
platinum status which carried an APR of 9.9% ! In addition,
the platinum card offered many more benefits and had no annual
fee. She also assured me that this was a "contract rate" and
not a promotional rate. I would keep the same account number
so I would not be opening a "new" account but simply upgrading
my current account status.

Next time you are reconciling your monthly statements take a
close look at the various APR's you are paying. If you notice
a disparity in the rates you are paying, call your card issuers
to negotiate a better rate. My persistence paid off. Be
persistent - it can pay off for you too!

About the Author: © 2005,
http://www.yourfreecreditreportnow.com Author: James H. Compared to traditional credit card processing services, mobile credit card processing ensures faster payment, increases overall sales and credibility, and saves a lot of money. A well maintained mobile credit card processing equipment is a must for such transactions. Mobile credit card machines are useful for those merchants who like to take their business to the customers. The functioning of a mobile credit card machine is simple. By swiping the customer's credit card through the mobile credit card processing equipment, all the transaction processes are done automatically in real time. When the merchant gets the authorization, a printed receipt is given to the customer.

Mobile credit card processing equipment helps in accepting payments through online credit cards as well as by telephone. With its state-of-the-art technology, mobile credit card processing equipment provides a secure payment gateway that enables fraud screening and also real time reporting of every transaction. For an online transaction, only a virtual terminal is needed. This enables you to get all the services through the Internet.

Mobile credit card processing equipment has certain added advantages when compared to traditional wireless merchant accounts. They include low monthly charges, low processing fee and no monthly minimum processing charge. Today, the wireless mobile credit card processing equipment is the latest in convenience and portability.

Many business concerns sign a contract with mobile credit card processing equipment companies for their services. Credit card fraud.

For those who may not exactly know what credit card fraud is, a simple definition. Credit card fraud is the act of making a purchase using someone else's credit card information. Sounds like something that should be difficult to do. Unfortunately, it's not.

There are many types of credit card fraud, the most common we'll cover in this article.

First there is what is called "mail non-receipt fraud" which is when a new or replacement card is sent by the bank and never received by the person it was supposed to go to. This has been mostly combated by the banks sending out inactive credit cards where the person has to make a phone call in order to activate the card. Otherwise it can't be used. Unfortunately there are some banks that do not do this and still send out cards that are already activated.

Then there is what is called "chargeback fraud" where a legitimate cardholder uses the card to purchase goods or services. Then when the statement comes they call the credit card company and claim they never received the item or service or that they never authorized the transaction.

Another type of credit card fraud is called "skimming" where an employee or merchant makes a second copy of the person's credit card details before processing the payment. This copy is then sold on the black market to professionals who clone illegal copies of these cards. Fortunately, skimming has become less of a problem since the introduction of CVV and CVS codes. These are not encoded on the card strip but are physically written on the back of the card. This is a required three digit code to finalize all transactions. Without this code even a cloned credit card will not work.

Skimming at ATMs has also been a problem. What the illegally set up ATM machine does is place a skimmer device somewhere in the machine that reads the magnetic strip attached to the card. This is used together with various devices that monitor the keypad of the ATM by attaching a fake fascia over the original keypad. Fortunately, this is not as common today as it was years ago when ATM machines were relatively new.

Then of course there is "online credit card fraud" which is the most common type of credit card fraud today with all the transactions that people do each day. This type of fraud gets a little complicated but simply stated, when a person uses their credit card online, hackers monitor the person's entry into the merchant's system and essentially steal the credit card information without the person having any idea this is happening. Another way to get a person's credit card info online is to send an official looking email telling the person that they have to update their credit card info. They are sent a bogus link to go to where the info is collected and used for whatever purpose the scammer wants, whether to sell the info or use it to make purchases himself.

In the next article in this series we'll go into credit card fraud into more depth.

Michael Russell

Your Independent guide to Credit Cards

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell
http://EzineArticles.com/?Credit-Card-Fraud---Part-I&id=123783

Credit Card Machines 802 Online

Credit Cards – Why Are They So Popular?
By Joseph Kenny

Credit cards have ballooned in popularity over the last decade. While once the preserve of the very rich, or very indebted, they are now available to practically everyone who wants them. They have become far easier to get a hold of. There is also a huge variety of choice out there for anyone who wants a credit card.

Different Types of Credit Cards

There are exclusive cards that offer their holders a huge array of benefits in exchange for a fee. But there are also cards that carry no subscription fee, give zero per cent on balance transfers and sometimes on purchases to for a certain period and offer quite competitive rates after that.

Increasing Demand

The credit card industry has experienced a massive amount of competition in recent years. Not only have a huge number of new players entered the market, but with the growth of store cards and debit cards, the traditional credit card providers have had to vastly improve the terms on which they do business with customers. This means that customers have more choice and better offers than ever before and this is also fuelling the demand for more credit cards.

Foreign Travel

Credit cards are becoming increasingly popular for people who frequently travel abroad. Rather than carry traveller’s cheques or a host of currencies around with them, they simply take a credit card. This can be used to pay almost anywhere in the world, and even when this becomes difficult, you can still use your credit card in a local bank machine to take out cash in whatever currency you need. Of course credit cards will charge a fee for all of this, but increasingly, as these fees become more competitive, customers are deciding that the fees are well worth the convenience and reliability that they offer while abroad. They are also very secure and if lost or stolen, can be cancelled quickly and easily.

Shopping Online

Online shopping has been another reason for the growth in popularity of credit cards and one of the main advantages to younger shoppers who are buying more and more goods and services online. From flights, to car rental bookings, to books and cds, shoppers would find it increasingly difficult to make such purposes if they did not have a credit card.

Consumer Debt

All of these benefits are what is leading to the phenomenal growth in the popularity of credit cards, but this is also leading to a serious problem of debt. The economy is in dire straits mainly due to consumer debt and with the lure of credit within everyone’s easy reach the problem looks set to increase. Only a massive swing in consumer attitude could change this problem without the intervention of the government. The Bank of England in fact is, at the time of writing, contemplating another increase in the base interest rate in an attempt to curb further spending.

Therefore, anyone considering taking out a new credit card should check the terms and conditions carefully and find out if they can afford it or not.

You may freely reprint this article as long as the author bio and live links are left intact.

For more information on credit cards visit Joseph Kenny's personal site http://www.cardguide.co.uk. Fraudulent credit card use can be an annoyance at best, and seriously damage your credit at worst. It's only reasonable that people have questions about credit card security and authentication methods. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about credit card security.

1. How does the ATM or store terminal know my PIN number?

PIN (personal identification numbers) are the most often used way to authenticate your identity when you use your credit or ATM card. When you first choose your PIN number, it is 'encrypted' - stored in a secret code of letters and symbols - and either stored in a database or on the magnetic stripe on the back of your card.

2. If my PIN number is stored in a database, doesn't that mean that bank or credit card employees have access to it?

The encryption method that's used by ATM and credit cards is called 'one-way encryption'. It makes it easy for the bank's computer to verify the PIN given the bank's key and the PIN, but nearly impossible to extract the PIN in text form from the encrypted database.

3. How does the machine 'read' my card?

The stripe on the back of your credit or ATM card is called a magnetic stripe. It's actually made up of thousands of tiny magnetic iron-based particles. The card can be 'written to' much the same way that the hard drive on your computer can be written - by means of magnetic interaction changing the charge. Written into the stripe are your account number and identifying data. When you swipe the card, that information is read and sent via modem to an 'acquirer' - a company that 'acquires' a payment guarantee from the credit card company based on the information stored on your card's magnetic stripe.

4. Isn't buying on the internet dangerous and insecure?

Honestly? Your credit card information is in less danger being transmitted over the internet than it is when you hand your card to a store clerk at the counter. The real danger to your credit card information isn't from hackers hitting online merchants, or stealing your credit card information via modem or phone lines. The real internet security dangers come from two different directions:

a. Hackers using back doors to get into the records of banks, credit card companies and data repositories.

This is the biggest danger. It's also a danger for stores and companies that have records 'online' for billing purposes. There's a great deal being done to improve security of data repositories, which are far more vulnerable than any data transmission stream.

b. The second big credit card security danger is the practice that's sometimes called 'phishing'.

In this case, the credit card thieves trick you into giving them your identification and credit card data. They may do this with an email purporting to be from an official of your internet service provider or email, your credit card issuer or anyone else. They also may build sites that are identical to sites like Paypal, American Express and others for the express purpose of capturing your information so that they can use it.

5. How do I protect myself from phishers?

First, never provide your social security number or other identifying data to anyone without first verifying that they are exactly who they say they are. Experts recommend that you never use the link provided in an email to go to the site of someone you do business with. Instead, open a new browser window and type in the known address by hand

You may freely reprint this article provided that the author bio and live links are left intact.

Joseph Kenny writes for the credit card comparison site http://www.creditcards121.com/ and visit credit card advice for more information on credit card security.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Joseph_Kenny
http://EzineArticles.com/?Credit-Card-FAQ---Credit-Card-Security-and-Authentication&id=168150

Credit Card Machines 802 Online

Credit Card Fraud - Part I
By Michael Russell

In this series we are going to cover one of the biggest problems all over the world.

Credit Card Fraud - Part I
By Michael Russell

In this series we are going to cover one of the biggest problems all over the world. Major features of a credit card terminal are its price, speed, and reliability. There are three major types of terminals - traditional, wireless, and virtual. Each of them has its own features and functions. Modern credit card terminals require electricity and telephone lines. The price of a basic terminal ranges between $150 and $300. Terminals with printers vary from $200 to $600. For wireless terminals, the cost is ranges from $600 to $1,000. AVS (address verification system) is a standard feature on most credit card terminals- so it is advisable not to buy a terminal without it. While purchasing wireless terminals, important factors to be considered are battery life, weight, range, and shock-resistance.

Credit card terminals are perfect for businesses of all sizes. They come in different models. Businesses already using credit card terminals need to buy extra equipments to maintain additional services such as debit card transactions and issuing and accepting gift cards. Always keep your terminals clean. Dust, crumbs, and especially paper lint can quickly block printers and gum up stripe readers.

If you choose to buy your credit card terminal online, do some preparatory research at the outset. You should consider shipping charges and any other hidden costs involved. It is a good idea to compare prices online. Also, check the warranty and customer care services. You may also consider upgrading your existing machine rather than buying a totally new one. It is advisable that you go through online reviews from knowledgeable sources.

Credit Card Terminals provides detailed information on Credit Card Terminals, Credit Card Terminal Systems, Wireless Credit Card Terminals, Credit Card Processing Terminals and more. Credit Card Terminals is affiliated with Credit Card Processing Software.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Kent_Pinkerton
http://EzineArticles.com/?Buying-Credit-Card-Terminals&id=353175
